In the first video, Seymour discusses the definition of beauty that is depicted by different human experiences and the way each individual processes beauty based on their feelings. Simple things in life can carry so much weight and meaning because of what emotions it causes for the person. Seymour presents a black and white children’s drawing, there is no audible reaction until he explains that this drawing was a young girl’s last living action before she died of cancer. The meaning of beauty changes based on knowledge.
The second video discusses the shift in beauty standards based on cultures, Bright grew up in West Africa, where being a thin woman was considered ugly and unhealthy. Throughout her childhood, she underwent many doctor’s visits to find a solution for weight gain. At the age of thirty, she moved to the United States and found that her body was now found beautiful. She ends her lecture on pressing the importance of defining your own beauty.
Both videos were very interesting ways of, the first focused on the feeling of beauty and people experiences and the second defined beauty through her own triumphs in life.
