I found this book of poems dedicated to the poet’s Father, entitled “Father’s Day” by Phillip Miller, I found that I connected with the poems because my father is my favorite person on the planet. Much of my art work is highly influenced by my father and things we have experienced together. Earlier in my life my father was absent and not dependable, this poem that I created through erasure I feel communicates that I have not forgotten the past but I have forgiven him on behalf of my mother and myself, in five years I have seen an abundance of growth and effort to parent me. Although his presence fluctuated, he inspired me throughout my childhood. In many ways, my dad and I are very similar and we have established a strong relationship and he pushes me to live my dream today. My decision to use water color and the fluid shapes represents flowing movement in my memories. I incorporated embroidery to add texture, but embroidery was my first art form I used to express myself, which parallels with the past and my father’s influence to make me create.
