- The zine is consistently monochromatic, blue and contains appropriated images from polo’s fashion history, captions and the bulk of writing was pulled from, “relevant articles”. The final product performs as a study piece and compiles Polo Sport’s impact in pop culture, specifically in New York City. The final documentation of the product is unsuccessful, I wish I had the ability to read the information and view the images Eleni edited.
- The selection of images depict vintage street style and the hip hop community in New York, the arrangement of the photos are nice. I do question why there was a dynamic decision to transform the images to blue and how that is significant within the themes of the final piece. The color is bold and interesting, but I would like to understand the motives and symbolism that are beyond aesthetic purposes. I do enjoy the layout, although because it is only one final piece, I would’ve liked to see the paper quality and maybe the size to be a design element to the piece and how that can impact the tone or overall mood. Cohesion is what needs to be addressed, I think the project is interesting, but the presentation looks like a work in progress.
- I like that there is an inclusion of relevance in pop culture, the artists’ personal interests in relation to the object. I do wish there was more personal information on the purpose of selecting her Polo hat. The zine can be related to a NYLON fashion magazine and this society’s current obsession with 90s pop culture, both in fashion and in music.
- I like that there is a connection to politics and exploring fashion’s role in political status in dealing with appropriation. As a Mexican American, I can connect to that aspect in the way that I go about my work.
