Bridge Reflection:

1. Choose one of the four bridge projects and describe your process, the outcome, and what you will take away from it. You must discuss the bridge project you choose across BOTH classes (Seminar and Studio). How did the Seminar project relate to the Studio project, or vice versa?

The bridge project I chose is: Bridge 4. For this bridge project, I designed Would You Rather cards for studio. The locations I used in this project represented the places that made greenwich village a desirable place to create work and live in, which was the thesis for my research paper. Hence, the Seminar project related to my studio project. I learned how to use Indesign to create layouts. The pictures that served as templates for some of my illustrations in my studio project were also primary resources for my seminar research paper. I will take away the skills to write a research paper, as well as the skill to be able to connect design with writing.  

2A. What learning/ learning topic or learning process did you find yourself using throughout the semester from Seminar?

• Where do you think it may be useful in the future?

Finding evidence to support your argument (primary vs. Secondary sources, using library databases) is the learning process I used throughout the semester, and will be using in my integrative seminar 2 class in the spring semester. 

• I used this skill in my seminar bridge four paper as well as in my other writing assignments.
• I applied this skill by taking the help of a design librarian as well as taking advantage of the books I found through the new school database. 
• These skills were applied in collecting evidence to strengthen my argument in my research paper. They were extremely useful in justifying my claim.
• This is a useful skill for future writing assignments. Learning to use sites such as Refworks, and Artstor were beneficial as they will help me in other forms of evidence-based writing that I will be doing in the future.

2B. What learning/ learning topic or learning process did you find yourself using throughout the semester from Studio?

• Where did you use it (in life, in class, in other classes)?
• How did you apply it?
• When was it useful?
• Where do you think it may be useful in the future?
• Elements and principles of design was the learning area that I used not only in designing symbol plates but also in all of my other projects. It was a helpful tool to learn how to apply as a communication design major.
• I use this skill generally while walking down streets and observing the design on menus, typography used etc. I also used this skill in my class while describing, analyzing, and interpreting the work of my peers.
• These skills were useful in projects for studio as well as my other classes. For instance, I used these skills in my time class while creating a zine. I used elements of design such s color, line, emphasis, and the rule of three.
• I specifically took into account this learning area in my studio projects such as: designing symbol plates, bridge four would you rather cards, bridge one project in which I created a ferris wheel and had each cart on the wheel represent a postcard. I will be using this skill in the future while engaging with graphic design.

• 3. What learning have you made personally this year that you want to bring into your future semesters? As a student, as a person, in a new school environment, with new classmates, or in any other way!)
• As a student I have learned to manage my time well in order to be able to put my best foot forward towards assignments. I learned several skills in both seminar and studio ranging from the DAI process to learning how to use primary and sender resources. These are useful skills that I will be applying in my other classes in the spring semester. In a new school environment, attending events, such as pictoplasma and museums that were related to my classes such as the MNCY, MOMA, Whitney museum of Art, Cooper Hewett, helped broaden my outlook in terms of design. Getting feedback from new classmates was one of my favorite aspects of this class as it helped me gain a deeper insight to my work and seeing the different ways that my work could come across as was fascinating.

• 4. What is one ah-ha that you had? What did you learn?
• Critiques are usually when I have a eureka moment. Recently, during the Bridge four studio critique, I had one when a classmate suggested making calendars. 
• For seminar, I had ah-ha moments while reading books and articles or while writing my research paper.

• 5. If you could tell future students anything from what you learned during your first semester in college, what would it be?
• If I could tell future students anything from what I learned during my first semester in college is to explore as much as you can in your foundation year and do things that aren’t related to your major whether that’s working on a project that challenges you or taking an elective that isn’t directly in line with your major or using a wide variety of materials that you haven’t been exposed to earlier.
