In Sustainable Systems, we took a field trip to Material Connexions, a material database available to artists and designers. The top photo shows different textures and materials I found in their huge library of swatches. Each different swatch has a code attached to it where you can later find information on that material and even contact the manufacturer to learn more and possibly purchase the material for your next project.
The assignment following our trip to Material Connexions was to pick one texture or material and research about it to create a system map. I chose corkshell and researched how it is manufactured, where it is sourced, and if it is a renewable material.
