Out of all the photos in the Refocus exhibit, my eyes were most attracted to the photo “Interim Storage facility” by the artist, Joe Nishizawa. His photos are meant to capture the after effects of environmental disaster in Japan. However, the vivid colors contrast against the serious topic giving his photos a sense of hope and happiness. Nishizawa also shows people different perspectives of the disasters by showing parts of the nuclear power station in other photos which colors are somber and dark. His pictures are clear and to the point of showing the environmental landscapes which differ to Sian Davey’s photos which have a dream like quality as she captures psychological landscapes.
