Monuments Field Trip

The Charging Bull sculpted by Arturo Di Monica is one of New York City’s biggest tourist attractions. At the site there is a crowd surrounding it attempting to take a picture to commemorate their visit. However,  many do visit the bull just for the sake of seeing it in person. People are forgetting the original intentions of the artist as it is supposed to remind the American people their strength and endurance through difficult times, specifically, the Wall Street Crash. Now due to the current culture and political climate, the charging bull stands for the greed, power, and money.

Our group chose this monument after visiting 3 memorial/monuments. The Charging Bull had the most people surrounding it. The Aids Memorial and Columbus Circle just had people sitting around and enjoying the space. This monument may have the most literal meaning behind it but, we thought as a group it would be challenging to expand more on this monument and then recreate a new monument.
