Above is the dress before the zipper and below is after the zipper
I also made the waste higher, to taylor it to her figure
So the first draft of the pattern was made from my roommate as the maniquin, the work room was closed by the time I was able to start working.
I was able to fit the pattern to Jasmine and it worked out fairly well.
This is what they look like flat.
This is what it looks like mocked up
I don’t have a pin cushion, so I had to make do.
Above is the first layer. It will be made up of sketches and iterations of the pattern. It’ll be asymmetrical and ragged and diy looking.
The second layer is made up of muslin. It’ll also have layers of the patterns w mistakes.
The third and final layer is the “final product” It’s made up of a transparent fabric, maybe chiffon or silk of a sort
This is what the dress will like with all the layers put on top of each other. But of course it’ll vary depending on how the layers get done.
These are the measurements of the model.
The project I want to do is based on the concept of the time flow of the creative process. The time flow would be represented in a 3D garment. The garment will be constructed of the process, process will be the garment. This means that the garment is constructed of illustrations and the pattern made in the process of creating a full garment. I want the layers of creation to be seen so it will be like a three tiered garment where from the bottom the view will be the initial process and as the eye travels up the garment will be more “finished.” The garment is essentially made of 2D and digital elements pertaining to the concept.
I would use a combination of illustrator, 2D, and 3D work. I would create sketches and notes on 2D while researching the project, illustrator to create the final sketch and the patterns for the dress, and 3D work to make the garment itself. The materials I will need will be: paper, a mannequin, sewing machine/thread, adobe/laptop, and fabric.
The concepts used would be a combination of Deleuze and design theory. Deleuze Because it’s process it can be seen as secondness because we’re consciously experiencing the process of creation. Design theory because I’m going to have to consciously decide on which theories to use and which to not to use in order to make a successful piece.
Above is the mind map on the firstness, seconness, and thirdness. Also on perception image, emotional image, and liqueous image.
I was debating if I wanted to sue the book together, like a traditional art book. But I decided against it because that didn’t seem effective for the concept.
This is my research notes
Above are the notes about what I wanted to research:
Organic, Surreal, brain state, dream interpretation, jungianism
This is the notes I had about film theory and the ones that are underlined/boxed are ones I ended up using and referencing in my video
I was debating if I should film parts of the sequence outside so I have clips from walking outside, but once I got to editing I didn’t like it so I edited it out. I also saw an ambulance so I filmed my face (was later going to be cut to just my eyes) because when I was done with both the audio and video, the siren sound in the audio didn’t have a representation in the video. So I was going to insert this to visually represent it, but it ended up being too busy so I edited that out as well.
So I wanted to do work based on dreams.
I knew I had footage of my dad half a sleep so I wanted to use that.
I learned how air drop things straight to my computer from my phone.
I spent the whole last week just rolling around and recording things that could be useful.
I ended up using a combination of both the recordings I had of my dad, but I cut and slowed his voice down and used repetition of the phrase “maybe it’s karma”
