For this subject, we are working with color and shadow. We were told that shadows are usually based off the reflecting color of the object and they are not actually grey, black or brown. For the three assignments below are drawings drawn from real-life observation or still-life as we were told to build a box and cut holes in it to allow light to shine through as it would help with the shadows. I painted my box orange and cut a hole from the side where i shined the light threw using the flashlight from my phone.
This painting was done during class time. The objects in it are a paper cube that is opened on the top and bottom, a crumpled up tissue paper, and a sock that I wrapped elastic band around, to allow more color in the piece. Susan recommended me to use more cool colors as the majority of the piece is in warm colors. She also recommend me to use more color in my work as the light make some parts of the object appear in a different color.
This painting below was done at home in a different composition. I moved some of the objects around and did not include the tissue paper in this painting. I also explored more with the color of the shadows by adding purple to it, although, I did have some difficulty as I was starting to overwork it. The paper was starting to peel off as it was getting increasingly more damped — this is why that are marks/lines in the shadow. I also wish I added more color in the band like the other painting I did in class because the majority of it is in blue.
