This is final project of Interior Drawing 2D class. The selected place is the lobby of Parsons building in 2 west 13th street. A cafe is the major design in this project. The cafe is placed in the lobby. We need to consider about the seating area, counter, food preparing, and display area for the student.

Red is the representative color of Parsons. Thus, I kept the original color on the wall and applied it on the unit lockers I designed. The red color I showed on the floor plan are the lockers and the transformable stools. From the floor plan, the location of all the designed space can be seen clearly, such as the seating area along the window, and the counter on the left of the space. Here, I want to introduce the counter. The counter top is made of aluminum, which is a main material in the original design of the lobby. The outer counter is used as a food display area (the glass cabinet), the cashier and the self-serve area (the very right). The food preparing place is the inner counter where the coffee machine locate. There are wheels under both counters, so they can be removed in case there is an exhibition happened in the lobby. About the locker and the stool, I will introduce them more detailed in the following sections.

I kept the original design of the ceiling. Because I want to let people focus on the red wall. Too much design of the lighting on ceiling will disturb people’s focus point.

Section 1 shows the front of the lockers and the counter. The black rectangle on the red wall is the TV screen. The sliding ladders were used to hold the original TVs. I replaced them into the new ladder, which can extend for people to climb, and use the original track for sliding let and right.
Section 2 is the knight scene. As you can see from the picture, the lighting of the space become more obvious. There are 7 spot light on the top of the counter and elevators. The light frame around the red wall is the focus point of the design. The frame highlight this wall during the night time. Thus, when people walk on the street, the Parsons logo and red all will be very attractive. Also, the role of the TV screen can be showed more obvious during the knight time.
Section 3 basically shows how it looks from the lobby to the street. But the focus here is the usage of the transformable stool. From left to right, you can see three versions of this stool. The first one is the stool with a table top, so that people can put their coffee and other staff on the top. The second version is when the table top is not opened. The version of the stool is just a normal stool which people can sit on. The last version is the stool with a back. The back is the rotated table top. Also, the stool can be used as a storage for the cafe. The cafe can storage their supplies in them.

Short Section 1 and 2 show the dimension of the walking area. As you see, there is enough space for both seating and working.

Section 1 shows the arrangement of the locker. The lower lockers, which is achievable, are for students and teachers. The upper lockers, which may be opened occasionally, are for the cafe owners to store their supplies. They could also be lockers for students and teachers to store their large piece of work.
