When it was created?
Times Square refers to an area created throughout the passage of history.
1. In 1883, the Metropolitan Opera was moved to the crossing of Broadway and 40th street, adding the first air of art and fashion to the area.
2. It gained its current name from New York Time newspaper whose general headquarter was moved to this neighborhood in 1900s.
3. In 1920s, with the development of filming and acoustic technology, this area became more popular than ever.
4. It was until 1980s when the American economy resuscitated that Times Square again populated with celebrities and media.

What is its reputation and function? How it was changed over time?
1. Before the foundation of the Metropolitan Opera, Times Square was an assembly for the horse traders, with horse houses and traders littered the area.
2. After Adolf Ox managed to persuade the mayor to build a subway station, which today known as 42th street Times Square, first advertisement appeared outside of a bank.
3. The Great Recession brought erotic industries to the Times Square
4. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani cleared all the erotic sites from Times Square in the late 90s, and replaced with art activities and multilayer stores. It then served as the center of art and fashion in New York.

What it is famous for now?
Times Square now becomes the greatest tourists’ attraction in midtown, with various well-known restaurants, department stores and brand galleries scattering around. Also, it is an assembly of business and media headquarters, thanks to its unique location and history of creation.
