Fashion Studies–LP post#4

As what Carol Tulloch mentioned in “The Birth of Cool”, “Coolness” is a very important character in their understanding of fashion. The Blacks understands cool as something outstanding to others, and catches their attention. Therefore, it is natural to see the unusually bright color or unbalanced color contrast in their designs. Also, affected by their skin color, black is always a main color. However, in other cases, some designs go to the other extreme, using white as the main color.
Let’s take the set of clothes attached as an example. The suit by Willi Smith is a very typical black design. The dark tone in general is a better match with their skin, which gives way to show the person, instead of the cloth. This avert of attraction shows the professionalism of an office clerk. However, it is not completely without a sense of Black coolness. The strips, in many different colors, do appear more attractive to others’ attention when the wearer is sunk in a flood of suits. The entire look is decent but also gives people a sense of cool.
The dress in the middle is very attractive. The red is very bright, even shiny to some extent. In a party, this would of course give more attraction, which defines the Black’s keen on “coolness”. The contrast in black and red gives the dark skin color a health appearance. In the dark ball room, or at the ceremony, the attraction is directed to the upper side of the woman’s body, which reveals the beauty of the curves of the wearer.
