“Hmmm” Collection
My “Hmm” Collection was inspired by the color gold, which is one of my favorite colors. I am so attracted to it because of its feeling of nobility and elegance. I found myself falling in love with the color gold while I was moving from my house to a new apartment, I recognized that I had a lot of different gold things, especially accessories. Gold represents as valuable and aristocratic, it’s quite of an expensive color. However, too much gold will make something look cheap. Thus, I came up with the idea of my collection “Less is More” to show how these little amounts of gold color made who I am and what my style is.
Items1&2: These two images were both found on the internet, which were all presented in the color gold.
The first one is a black sculpture with golden mask on it. This is a mask that’s about general human face shape, and it looks like a shield when you look at it from the front. The mask was designed in the pattern of vertical lines and looks very fashion-forward. I’m a person who always feels insecure, so when I first looked at this mask, I felt strongly connected of the sharpness of this color. With this kind of design and structure, it reminds me of the worrier.
The second one is the International Center for the Arts Jose de Guimarães, an urban landscape with the name “the square”. It consists of different sizes of golden squares put together as a whole. The material is probably metal, and as the light comes up, the reflection that the color gave makes everything seem mysterious. It grabbed my attention by its simplicity shapes and sharp colors, very modern.
Items 3&4:
This golden unicorn hangs above my bed. I found it one year ago in Seoul, Korea. It’s a DIY paper sculpture, which originally came with pieces of paper and I made it by following instructions. I bought it right away because I have collected a lot of things related to unicorns due to their magic and their mysterious skill that protect me at night. I included it in my collection not just because of its color, but also because I made it myself.
I’m a person who will smoke when I’m stressed. One day in Beijing, I saw this really cool golden lighter in a grocery store beside my house. The design was quite different than general lighter, but similar. I can refill it and every time I take it out, people looked at me and asked where I got it. The interesting thing is that people look at it and they know that it belongs to me, because it’s my style and my color.
Items 5&6:
Both of these items were found in the store in Shanghai this winter. I went there with my friends and saw this little dinosaur standing in the accessory area holding a pearl in his hand. I first thought that was a decoration for the room, then I figured out it was actually a ring. To me, it’s a great design that you transfer the ring in a different kind of form and present it. Furthermore, the pearl made me think that he’s protecting it from other people.
The clip was also found in the store as accessories. Many fashion bloggers these days will click this kind of clip on to their clothes or hats. This clip is bigger than normal size, simply designed and seems really cool. I always wear it with my COS black coat. Milan once said that it is nice that I had this on my coat, so that it’s easy to recognize.
Items 7&8:
There is this store called “The other stories” in SoHo, New York. I always visit it not because of the clothing but their design of rings and earrings, it looks like a half way folded metal. I found this design really interesting due to the illusion of a scrap paper. However, since it was in gold metal can never be folded like this, it really grabbed my attention on it. So, I bought it without a doubt.
I found this binder in the Blick store around school, It’s nothing special than normal binder beside it’s color. I found that interesting because it was hollowed and simply designed. I saw it couple times in store but I didn’t buy it because I don’t know if it worth it. Then the fourth time ran into that store, I bought it right away even I don’t know why. Probably because it’s simple and I like it.
Items 9&10
The last two items were actually one. This was the gift from my roommate at Christmas, we went to Sophera and I was looking at this package since I just can’t help myself stop looking at the golds. She found I was interested in it and bought it for me. Besides, I was simply attracted by the sparkle glitter in the package, but not really the makeup. I love things that are sparkle, it makes my life seems shinning.
