In visiting Madison Square Park I took into account the size of the south fountain. I noticed the size and how small it was. My inspirations really exaggerated size in their illustrations and that is what I wanted to do in my model. My two inspirations focused on imagination, creativity, scale, gravity, and shadows.
I learned that lighting was a key element to this installation. Different times of the day and different days of the year affect the installation. The shadows are shown on a white surface, giving it the sharpest contrast. The sloping edge distorts the shadows, creating illusion. The shadow placement relies on the time of year and placement of the sun, creating a new experience with seasonal changes.
