INVENTED FORM (Eric Cheng)

INVENTED FORM-Object 1:A Vessel

Project Description: Bridge project 2 attempts t move from material experimentation towards insight into larger potential design problems that might be addressed. Rather than starting at the outset with the design a predetermined form, this process ask you to question what the potential opportunities the material may offer. You are tasked with harnessing the properties of the material palettes and the propose potential application of the material, looking beyond the obvious, common interpretation.

Object 1: A Vessel (Container)

Vessel General

The vessel is made of moss and crystal resin. It takes the advantage of crystal resin fixing the nature shape of moss inside each man made flower to create an sense of respect to nature. Chemical compounds in the crystal resin removes the pigment from purple moss and fixes the color inside the flower. In general, this vessel comes from the nature but also represent human respect to nature.

Selecting only the top of each moss, cutting them into a round shape that can perfectly fit in the flower mould. While the moss is place to be dry, mix the compound of liquid A(Crystal resin) and liquid B(Crystal resin)  together. Using brush to paint a layer of compound(A&B) on the flower mould to make sure there will not be much bubbles on the final object.

Pouring the compound into the flower mould but only fill with half of each mould so that there will be space to put moss into the flower mould. After placing moss inside each flower, filling another half of the mould with compound A&B. Waiting to dry for 24 hours and taking the final object out of the mould.

Vessel Detail 3

The vessel is made of 48 resin flowers. After drying individual resin flower, connect them by glue. Some flowers on the vessel are produced in dynamic shapes which generate the beauty of nature.
