Homage Project part. 1

An Homage to Yves Klein

I began this project by compiling a list of my favourite creatives at the moment;

Favourite creatives:

Wes Anderson
Jacquemus
Josef Albers
Yves Klein

Wes Anderson- Filmmaker

-Symmetry -Create own characters? -Of people I know? -Drawing form? -Illustrator? -Photoshop? -Colour Palette

Jacquemus- Fashion Designer

-Reconstruction of the white shirt -Depiction of the south of France -The mood of the Spring 2018 RTW collection -Work with fabric?

Josef Albers- Artist

-Simple forms -Two dimensions -Work with colour combinations -Desert Glow

Yves Klein- Artist

-Concept of one colour with various forms -Could combine my favourite colour with forms of my choice. -Bright Red? -Oxblood? -Gold? -Use Plaster mold? -Use Foam? -Everyday objects? -Body e.g. hand?

Having been particularly inspired by Yves Klein’s nude sculptures in his statement blue, I began to look at colours which I find captivating. I thought about gold and red, however decided to stick with red as it is a colour which I think I can relate to more. There is also always a bit of red in the clothes that I wear. I am very drawn to it.

I decided to experiment with casting plaster and alginate molds. I rarely ever use this medium so I wanted to push myself.

My original idea was to create molds of several different items, such as a Coke can, a hand, a fruit e.g. lemon.

I began with my hand:

As you can see, the fingers snapped off while trying to remove the alginate from the plaster.

Regardless, I used a spray can to cover this sculpture in red:

I planned on amending this project in the following ways:

Gluing this piece together

Attempting other forms

Ensuring the forms are in one piece
