Journal N°2
Tuesday the third of February.
Today I was looking at the front page on Facebook. I don’t only use Facebook for friends or pictures but also to read articles and go through the latest magazine’ pictures. I subscribed to several Fashion and Photography magazines which I am really interested in. Today, while scrolling the front page I saw the latest I-D magazine cover shoot on which figured Rihanna, one of the major figure of the music industry nowadays. She is obviously known for her music but also for her looks and the image she gives to the public. With all the technology, a singer is not just a singer anymore but a public celebrity which, to me belongs to the visual culture field, especially when they are photographed to be on the cover of Fashion Magazines.
The reason why I am talking about this picture right know, is because I was really amazed by the beauty of the pictures and of Rihanna. The simplicity and the colors of where the picture was taken are astonishing and embellish the beauty of Rihanna, emphasizing the color of her eyes and skin.
I love this picture, because it really inspiring and shows simplicity can be beautiful. Instead of presenting a lot of artifacts like too much make up or retouching, the photographer played with the natural beauty of Rihanna finding different ways of emphasizing her beauty.
There is no better way than the simplicity of a backround to focus the eyes of the public on the subject of a picture.
I-D magazine really represents what is the visual culture of Nowadays, focusing on modernity and the freshness of the people featuring in it. It is really a representation of our generation: young, fresh and inspiring.
