My theme is fear
This is a little canvas on which I put plaster and colored in a dark bluish color. The darkness of it can create this feeling of fear. This idea of not seeing anything, not knowing anything provokes fear.
When I Talk about fear, I am not talking about a physical fear but about something more abstract, something individuals create in their mind making them questioning who they are and what they are capable of.
Fear is wondering about what the future is made of, what you will achieve, will you be able to achieve anything. Fear is like being in an extremely dark room and not being able to find an exit.
When you are scared you are, in a way paralyzed, we could think that fear could be a motivation to go further but most of the time it gets you nowhere.
The idea of failure is so scary that most of the people won’t even try.
Maira Kalman could choose any other objects that would explain the meaning of this canvas. The meaning of this canvas being very abstract without any explanation, she would need to put object that are more understandable and which communicates the idea of fear a little better.
For example she should put the painting called “the cri” by Edvard Munch which shows this idea of fear by its title and what it represents.
She should also put the picture or a sculpture of a brain explaining what kind of fear I am talking about. Being afraid of a spider and being afraid about something more abstract is the same feeling but a different way of resolving it.
She should also put a quotation Dale Carnegie which says “ Inaction breeds doubts and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear do not sit hoe and think about it. Go out and get busy.” This quotation is exactly what I think fear is and how you should resolve it.
