Day 3

In this case, I asked my mother to portray myself in an unconventional way because I finally comprehended that everyone needs to accept themselves as they are and not as the society thinks that the perfection must be. This picture stroke me as it resembles the problematics when I was not accepting myself and when I used to always find something wrong with my body and that was contributing to my mental unhappiness. Even if this picture was, firstly, taken as a joke to see how the transparent glass would change the real image, later I could see a deeper and more powerful message behind it. Here the viewer should reflect and understand that people must consider themselves beautiful even if they do not respect the aesthetic canons of the society that we live in. This fragment connects to larger and highly debated topics which are attitude and self acceptance. As we assuredly know, nobody is perfect and the community should become less constrictive about what is beauty and should be more open minded about different backgrounds, races and social status. As modern society have very strong beliefs about how bodies should fit certain dresses, individuals start to feel more ashamed of themselves and, therefore, they tend to loose courage with a considerable lack of acceptance and a subsequent loss of self confidence. In conclusion, this image made a strong effect on me as it helped me to discuss and reflect on arguments that I do not tend to converse enough about, even if I agree on their importance on a large scale.
