Savage Hunt

For the savage hunt, I searched locations that are relevant to William Shakespeare, and coming out mostly theaters. Yet I do not want to go on that direction, so instead I went to serious of places of statues of Shakespeare and characters in his play.

Before going anywhere, I just have a rough idea of doing a different version of the art work I have chosen, or even a replicant or it. But after talking with Matt, hearing him say that I should have myself in my work, and to do as dark as Mon as I could imagined, I felt enlightened by the words. I decided to go down that path.

The first place I went is Shakespeare Garden in central park where is a landscape for full of plants mentioned in Shakespeare’s work: columbine, primrose, wormwood, quince, lark’s heel, rue, eglantine, flax and cowslip, and I decide to add those elements in my illustration but twisted version of them. Also the old wooden bridge and benches match the image of my work in mind: the atmosphere of elegant and mysterious atmosphere just as the Queen Titania is depicted in the original illustration by Sir Landseer.

Then, when the sun went down, I started my journey on the Shakespeare themed statues in the city. The nightfall adds a curtain of darkness just the way I wanted, and a strange thing is that when I wondering around the city, I have the image of Edgar Ellen Poe in mind. So the places I visited are Willian Shakespeare Sculpture in Central park, Puck Sculpture at Puck Building, York’s Skull and Shakespeare Bust at the Players Club, Shakespeare Rondel at the Caroline Apartments, and the Ophelia at the Former I. Miller Shoe Store in Times Square. They all helped me add a sense of gloomy mid-eval touch to the concept.
