ELP: Dérive

The process of my derive is following dots on my map. The dots are actually a representation of birds I saw in my field of vision that I sketched down on a paper with charcoal. Then I went to each location marked by a dot on my map of the Tuileries gardens and took pictures in black and white at random of the area. For part one I presented the pictures I took on screen as a slideshow.

For part two, I took the pictures and printed them out on A3 semi-glossy paper and bound the pictures to make a book. I printed out on the acetate paper the map of the Tuileries gardens and before each picture, there is a dot marked on a blank page that will show you on the map where the picture was taken.

It was a challenge to pinpoint what I wanted to do with the pictures. I had general ideas that I couldn’t materialize.

If I could do another version of my book, I  would arrange the book by adding a cover. I would put my memoir of the dérive (for seminar) at the end, and one paraph of my essay as an opening to the book at the beginning.

Derive pt.2

For my final dérive project, I decided to print out a photo album with all the pictures I took on my dérive.

I took the pictures and printed them out on A3 semi-glossy paper and bound the pictures to make a book. I printed out on the acetate paper the map of the Tuileries gardens and before each picture, there is a dot marked on a blank page that will show you on the map where the picture was taken.

Derive // pt. 1

My dérive is founded on the enviroment itself. In this case, it is based on the ecosystem of the Jardin des Tuilerie.

I  started by placing the birds I saw in my field of vision on a paper with chalk. Then I overlayed the dots on the map of the Jardin des Tuileries, and that was the map of my dérive.  I went to every spot the dots marked and took pictures of the landscape.

Initially, I had another plan for my dérive, it was supposed to be an algorithm that will lead me throughout the park. But when I arrived at the gardens the first instinct was to draw the birds.
