Drawing and Imaging- White figure and Ambiguous compositions.

We started this project by completing some line figure drawings. We studied various gesture drawing techniques before attempting to capture live models ourselves.

Next we continued to develop our drawing skills by drawing a stool setup. This brought a new set of challenges, and taught us to understand geometric drawing better.

Then we combined our two drawings in photoshop, and traced the resulting shapes in illustrator.

The final step for this project was to take the negative shapes from our combined drawing and create new compositions. One composition was to feature a white figure on a black background, while the other was to be an ambiguous composition with both black and white acting as the ‘figure’. This helped me to understand the use of figure and ground in composition and the concepts of positive and negative space.
