Seminar-Shitty First Draft Assignment

Part of being a New Yorker is being constantly surrounded by advertisings. While walking down the street, shopping at the grocery store, working, and even inn our own homes we are being exposed to corporate advertising messages. While this may not seem alarming to most people, studies are beginning to show that advertising may have a deeper negative impact than previously known. With this in mind, it raises a very important question, who is responsible for the ads we are being exposed to, and who will take responsibility for their effects? In the case of the thousands of ads in the new york city subway station, the answer is clear, The New York City Government. The subway station is a government owned public space, and the ads in the stations and cars are chosen and regulated by city government. They are responsible for choosing which messages New Yorkers see every day, and we trust them to choose responsibly. After all, the government is for the people and by the people, not for corporations. However in recent years, there has been some doubt about the decision making process for which ads are shown.
