Drawing through making – Shoe

Above there are two different ideas I drafted for my shoe.

This is the pair of shoes I made for my Drawing through making elective first project. I used wool felt which I cut using the laser lab and then attached the shoe together using embroidery yarn.

It took me a lot of experimentation with this project as I wasn’t very experienced with illustrator and had never used the laser lab. Once the pieces of the shoe were layered into the shape I desired I had to figure out how to attach the entire piece together for it to fit around a foot. This was probably the hardest part as I realised when trying to knit the pieces together that some piece were not to size and therefore I had to remeasure and cut some pieces to size. This was a long process of trial and error.

I would have preferred to have made the entire shoe by hand instead of using the laser lab as with the laser lab I struggled to get the exact sizes of each part of the shoe. Though if I had done it by hand I would have probably done a better job at sizing the shoe to fit to the foot.

For the project I would have probably designed a different design, as this one was not sturdy enough. I also would have used a different material, a more sturdy material such as leather or denim.
