NECKLACE

I remember being smaller and thoroughly enjoying DIY jewelry kits consisting of elastic and plastic pendants. I also remember when my favorite five year old made me one of those necklaces. When constructing a necklace made of wood and mechanical connectors, I thought of my five year old friend, Marie. I wanted the necklace to be cute, something five year olds would like. I went to the wood-shop in the making center and carved four pieces of wood with the bandsaw. I made them in the shape of a panda, cat and rabbits. I drew an outline on the wood and cut out the shape with the bandsaw. I then proceeded to sand it, and drilled a hole on the top of the piece so I could connect each piece and make it wearable. I made the chain by wrapping it around a pen and using a wire cutter to cut it into several circular pieces. I then connected the circles with pliers, and inserted the wires into the holes I drilled into the pieces of wood. Then, I drew little faces onto the pieces of wood because I knew how much Marie liked silly faces. Despite it being my first time in the woodshop using the intimidating machines, the result was not too shabby and I definitely think I would get a better hang of it the more I practice. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this assignment.
