PLASTIC BAG PROJECT

For the plastic bag project, I created a makeup bag safe for fragile items using a bubble wrap insulated plastic Amazon bag, fabric that would otherwise be thrown out, thread and a zipper from an old hoodie. An issue that I have encountered recently was the fact that I am clumsy and a lot of my makeup comes in glass containers. After completely destroying and making a mess out of Rihanna’s foundation, I decided it would be smart to make a makeup bag that could safely carry glass products. I order from Amazon quite often and realized when I order merchandise that are prone to accidental damage, the packages are insulated bubble wrap bags. I cut the bag into a smaller rectangle shape and sewed the sides to close it. Unsatisfied with the aesthetics of the bag, I decided to utilize fabric that I had already cut up but did not throw out. I previously stained a Champion hoodie during another tragic accident leading me to crop the hoodie, as only the bottom half of the hoodie was affected. I also had a linen tapestry that I used for several years until it began to develop a lot of tearing. Using these two fabrics that would otherwise be thrown out, I covered the conspicuous Amazon logo on the plastic bag by sewing on top of it. Lastly, I cut the zipper part of an old hoodie and sewed it onto the bag but unfortunately it serves no function because I forgot how zippers worked. Plastic bags are mass produced literally to serve a function once. If I did not have an assignment that required creating something usable out of a plastic bag I would not have thought twice about how I can reuse it with a legitimate purpose, besides using it as a garbage bag.
