PROCESS photos

1. Deconstruct first garment

2. Put those deconstructed garments on the tracing paper and trace it.

3. Deconstruct second garment.

4. Put tracings of deconstructed first garment on deconstructed second garment.

5. Cut out the traced pieces of deconstructed second garment.

6. Match the pieces in different ways and find out how it works.

7. Sew the deconstructed second garment pieces together.

(I used sewing machine for reconstructing every part except pocket. I sew by hand for connecting pocket and the pants.)

8. DONE!

Reflection

  1. Project Title: CHILL pajama pants
  2. My first garment piece is a pair of jogging pants. This was actually my mom’s pants, but she gave me when I was packing for New York during winter break. My mom told me that she bought it from Uniqlo shop in Korea. I don’t think there is a specific reason why I chose its pants, but honestly, I thought it would be more interesting to deconstruct this kind of piece because it has many parts including a pocket on the back and rubber band part on the top. Also, even though it is a really comfortable piece for me, since I have lots of jogging pants, I wanted to eliminate some of my pants. I chose a pajama dress for the second garment. I got this garment as a present from my aunt when she went to Hawaii to travel. I chose this dress as a second garment because I don’t wear it anymore.
  3. Honestly, I forgot to look the label for garment 1 and garment 2 had no labels because I cut out the label immediately when I first got that pajama. However, I think both garment 1 and Garment 2 are made out of cotton that is very flexible.
  4. The most challenging part of this project was using sewing machine because it was my first time using its machine. Also, all the process that I had to go over for making clothes was very tough than I thought before.
  5. Deconstructing and reconstructing. I felt that doing sewing part does not take that long, but the steps before sewing machine was time-consuming.
  6. Most enjoyable part of the project was when I did the final sewing and turn pants inside out to see the final piece.
  7. I am very satisfied that I made this whole pair of pants with my low technique skills of sewing machine.
  8. The most surprising about this project was to know the inside process of make one clothes.
  9. Throughout this project, I learn that I have to more work on time management in order to more successful and high-quality clothes.
  10. Since I applied for changing major into Fashion Design a few weeks ago, this project gave me an opportunity to consider about Fashion Design major more seriously. It also helped me to decide to change the major because even though the project was very challenging, I enjoyed a lot doing each of the processes.
