5. Reflection
Project Title: “Dolce Vita”
My original proposal idea for this project was to put Audrey Hepburn’s signature styles with giving a potential aura including elegance, innocence, and classy image of her. I basically wanted to keep the design of “black dress” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s because it is one of the most famous outfit for her. Most of her style in the film was consist of dress, gloves, and hair accessories. Therefore, I wanted to include those three kinds of garments. However, I changed to more like a modern shape and black dress into a white dress. The reason why I chose a white dress is that I wanted to show her pure and innocent beauty inside. This decision is the part where I got inspired from seminar research which I get to know lots of her background as an actress, charity worker, and mother. There is no specific reason for making into modern shape unless I just wanted to give a sense of today’s trend. I used silk and chiffon for garment 1(dress) because I thought to have two-layer would be unique and elegance. I also used silk for gloves because in that way I thought it could easily show the beauty of every single motion of the arm. Lastly, I used chiffon for ribbon attach in the hairband to give consistency with the dress. Since there was mistakes or difference throughout the process, I had changed some parts. For example, I initially decided to make finger covered gloves, but I switched to fingerless gloves. Overall, I had lots of challenges during this project, but I am eventually very satisfied with my works because I got way better products than I thought even though it’s my first time making my own designed garments. Through this project, I learned more about sewing techniques, and I am now more used to the sewing machine. Moreover, I also learned more about time management and taking care of conditions to success in this fashion area. Therefore, I definitely want to more improve on time management and skills in the future.
