“Death of the Unicorn”
I want to emphasize the death of the visual art over conceptual art in nowadays. I chose “The Unicorn in Captivity” as the image of the classical Medieval visual art, which is one of the most beautiful tapestry ever known, and also my favorite one. My idea is to create two different art pieces, that will combine with each other. The “top” part is the basic black ink drawing inspired by the tapestry. “The Unicorn in Captivity” shows the captured creature tied up, surrounded by the fence, and sitting under the pomegranate tree, which in Medieval Art meant fertility. My drawing is going to depict dead Unicorn under the dead tree with no grass inside the fence. When I looked at the tapestry I was wondering what will happen if the unicorn eat all the grass, and all the pomegranates. Finally, it will be out of food, and eventually die. Thats what might happen with the visual art, less people will adore it, and it will just disappear, only leaving the old classical paintings, tapestries, sculptures.
The second part of the installation would be more personal. I want to frame the drawing of the unicorn, and then, take the roll of white paper, and put it under the frame, so it goes on the wall and on the floor. Inspired by the Ehren Tool, who was using his own life experience for his content, I will use my childhood restrictions about the food. I was always tough not to ever use food for playing or decorating, or using it in art. Basically, not to waste food on something else exempt physical consumption. On the roll of paper, I will take pomegranate juice, and spill it from the top to the bottom, as the juice is plying out format he dead pomegranate tree in the drawing. One the bottom, I will have pomegranate seeds, as if the death of the visual art, will give opportunity for the more concept based art. I want the pomegranate seeds on the bottom to be viewed as children, and the whole installation to symbolize the birth of something new, change in the art world. Also, it will be my personal fight, because I do not want to use food, but I am fighting with myself to do that, and to create the second part of the installation, which can work as a contemporary conceptual art piece by itself.
