100 drawings

100 drawings withe the first original 15 based off Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Garden Landscape and Foundation, in the Charles Engelhard Court of the American Wing at the Met.

For my drawings after the initial 15, my goal was to stay away from drawing objects that i constantly surrounding myself with, whether psychically or ideological. But came to realize, no matter what, this trends and ideas still ending up in my work. Also, i did this in one sitting with my girlfriend present. Before I started the 16th drawing, I asked my girlfriend and myself what Garden Landscape and Fountain reminded us off and that’s how I based my next few drawings. Every time I was stuck or one of us had and idea, we’d bounce it off each other. Which in fact, opened my mind up to many this I wouldn’t have drawn or even thought of if I was alone.

Garden Landscape and Fountain measures 24 x 77 x 61 3/4 in. (61 x 195.6 x 156.8 cm) and is constructed purely out of Favrile glass mosaic and cement. The glass tiles come together to create a scenic nature view. The main focus of the piece is at just the lower right: a large marble vase is filled with roses that cascade downward next to a terracotta flower pot housing a single red rose. Just above, there are four distinct tall, slender cypress trees set against a pale multicolor sky. Not to mention, the two swans that carve ripple effects as traces of their movement in the ever so placid waters surrounded by clusters of lily pads. Tiffany found his inspiration through Byzantine art and churches he visited as a young man, and based multiple pieces, including Garden Landscape and Fountain, on a Maxfield Parrish landscape.
