This class started off with each student writing his/her own manifesto of sorts. The process of making my own manifesto taught me a lot about myself as a designer and how I function as a human. The manifesto was then to be used as a blueprint to a project where part or all of the manifesto was realized in some way. This project began with a statement in my manifesto stating, “You need a roof, but design the house under it.” From this I decided to make a small wooden “house” and used the rest of my manifesto as a more literal blueprint for the design of the house. Each wooden piece was laser cut and fit together with tension rather than glue. This project familiarized me with a new tool and continued on a theme from freshman year that glue is not always the answer. It was a challenging project and required repetitive laser cutting until the pieces fit together perfectly.
