Subculture Prototype: Post #9

11 11

Originally my idea was to collage most of the photographs that I take at the club. I wanted it to be similar a poster that will show what it’s like to go to this gay club. Since so far I only have photographs from one night there’s only one collage. Once I go to the club again I will have a disperse amount of photographs to work with. This was more of a trial for where I am heading with the project because I want there to be written stuff along with the photographs. This prototype showed me that I like the idea of blending my photographs from the night in the way that the memory brings back to me.

After realizing I didn’t want to make collages of the photographs I moved towards journal entries and having a good way to read and see the experience I got from the space and the people in it. I will also talk about things like the energy, the music, the intimacy, and especially the attraction. The people I got to see so far was what I expected since it wasn’t my first time to a gay club but it was my first time to that specific one. I want there to be a contrast between the spaces but no the subculture because they’re the same regardless of where you go. There’s just a different type of crowd that will go to the spaces because of the size or music.

I look forward for this prototype to prove whether I like to talk about my photography or not because in the past I like to only have people look at it but not bother describing my idea or provide context. I think this project’s prototype will give me more insight on why it can work and maybe why it’s not so bad to provide description for it.

I hope to gather more photographs by going back to two more clubs,  whether they’re the same or different clubs. I just want more visuals to show a range of how gay clubs are and the use of space. I don’t think it will be too hard to find out any history of the specific clubs I go to or even the beginning of the gay club scene in general. I want to provide some anecdotes and accurate information cohesively alongside the photographs.
