Charcoal

During class we drew the outline of the woman’s face from the angle we were sitting at. Since she was turned slightly away from me I had to draw the definition of her cheek bones and lips. Using a mixture of tones of charcoal it turned out to be blended in an interesting way. Using white to define her cheek and under eye features and black to blend around her hair and lips. I also shaded around the outside of the figure to define the space she was in. It was dimly lit so I wanted her face to have a darker side and shades of white along her neck. I am proud of this drawing and enjoyed using the medium charcoal. It pushed me to use charcoal again in a future assignment, the two point drawing we did at the NYC Public library.
