Reflection on Alfred Shuetz’s: “The Stranger”

Alfred Shuetz’s “The Stranger” explores immigrants and how they enter a community and group that seems already solidified to them and how their mode of thinking can differ from this groups. This reading focuses on why immigrants are so vital to groups since they have such a unique “recipe” and lens of thinking. The “recipes” in my family are a combination of two different cultures since my parents both have vastly different backgrounds. Shuetz also talks about how immigrants eventually acclimate and how their “recipes” may adjust based on where they are. I think this is a really interesting thought to keep in mind.
