Assigned to create a poster for an imagined lecture of a person we admire. I choose the film documentarist Dziga Vertov, a pioneer in early cinema. For my poster I choose to mimic the style of one of Vertov’s posters for the film a Sixth of the World. I drew from the idea of having a poster covering another and decided to turn this into a physical aspect rather then a digital one. I printed my two posters and pinned them to the wall with the upper left corner hanging loose to reveal the bright red from below. I choose the color red due to Vertov’s close association with Communism and this symbolism that this held throughout his work. I chose a san serif type face to closely resemble the styles used during the 20s and 3os that was visible in many of Vertov’s posters.
Having the two posters layered brought in a level of curiosity to the viewers who wanted to physical interact with the poster and pull apart the two layers and read the information underneath.
