First LER: IS2

  1. What was new to you in IS2?/ what is one thing that you learned that was new to you on 2/1/18? The vocabulary that we learned is new to me in IS2. I learned words that I didn’t know about before the  class. An example of a word that I did know was the dodecahedron however it was used differently than I am used to.
  2. What is one thing that you found interesting from class on 2/1/18?  I thought meditating in class was really interesting. Allowing  ourselves to focus in the moment is harder than it seems. I really appreciated the time we took to do so.
  3. In IS 2 (Sem or Studio have you dome any “spelunking” Did you do any “cave exploration” – for either IS class, or anything else that captured your attention this week? Unfortunately I do not think I’ve done any spelunking in either of my classes or in life this week.
  4. What is one question you have from class on 2/1/18 class? I’m wondering how I’m going to  incorporate the systems that I’m learning about in my life as a student and on a day to day basis.
  5. What is one noticing you made about the John Berger – Publicity essay? I really enjoyed the essay because I never made the connection that he made about publicity mimicking art. I liked seeing the ads side by side to the art.
  6. What is one question you have from the reading/ about the reading? I wonder how he got to the whole idea about how ads are similar to oil paintings. I guess he got this from what was idealized before and what is idealized now a days.
  7. What connections have you made between IS 2 (so far) class and any other class you are taking? (Referring to content – or structure.) Well this semester i’m taking sustainable systems so overall I’m learning about ecological systems and this reminds me of IS2 in general.

Lenika Silva, or rather Leni, is a native New Yorker attending Parsons School of Design. As of right now she is undeclared but excited to see what her first year as a student at The New School will steer her towards. She original had set her heart on film but decided that she would like to learn about other forms of media and art that were never available for her at her high school. Some interesting facts about Leni: Leni is scared of pigeons even though she is a Native New Yorker. She lives in Spanish Harlem (they trying to change the name to SoHa (South Harlem) and it pains her soul. She is Mexican so she loves spicy food and can speak Spanish. First Generation college student and she is so proud to be part of The New School Community! Class of 2021
