Molloy Beckett

Nonsense:

The truth is I don’t know much. For example my mother’s death. Was she already dead when I came? Or did she only die later? I mean enough to bury. I don’t know. Perhaps they haven’t buried her yet. In any case I have her room…I’ve forgotten how to spell too, and half the words. That doesn’t matter apparently”

I don’t know why but this quote makes me feel uneasy, because of the way that it is written. Beckett shifts a lot in his tone and feelings. For example he goes from saying that he does not know much, and not being sure on how to spell. I was trying to make sense of what he said, but in his writing he seems very sure that he is not sure about what is going on. Molloy has me wondering a lot about the death of his mother, and I feel that I wanted to know more to what happened and he ended the whole thing with this line, “In any case I have her room”.

Sense:

Then each went on his way. Each went on his way, A back towards the town, C on byways he seemed  hardly to know… What shall I do? What shall I do?

From this quote I get a sense of internal feelings because he is asking himself questions and that allows the audience to wonder the same thing he is questioning as well. I also enjoy his use of repetition, “Then each went on his way. Each went on his way” this style helps break away from the normal simple style writing.
