Multiple Perspective Proposal

My inspiration came from the photo of my four cousins Sewicka Bien- Aime, Cidgy Bossuet, Brianna Bien- Aime, and Diana Boussuet. The event was taken place in someone’s home and I was interested in the choice of clothing and hair. It reminds me of the way my mom would get my sister and I ready for church on Sunday morning. What also interested me was how Brianna and Cidgy were looking at something else in the distance, away from the camera. I was also excited to explore the hairstyles and clothing that they were all wearing. All of out mother’s would dress us the same exact way using barette’s, creating these unique and original styles that took so long, and we wore these big dresses. The story I want to create is how my cousin’s in the photo felt about the photo and hair. Using Emily Stein’s series that celebrates the beauty of black children.

The materials that I will be using are

Research

I will use research by interviewing each of my cousin’s personally, I will do a recording of each of person and ask them questions about the photo to see if they remember what happened. I will use some of the clothing to research the company and the store. I will use this research to make and recreate the moment where everyone was sitting on the couch and were getting ready to take this photo. Using everyone’s voices as a voice over to my photography, to create a slideshow presentation. I want to create a style in each photo that there is someone in the background of the images that we can not see. I want to explore the fashion and hair that is becoming a trend for young girls when I was young to wear. I am excited to be researching and interviewing everyone for this project. In addition, I will be focusing on family tradition how family photos can trace you back to finding out more on what happened on a particular day, and to know more about people.

Bibliography:

Amazing Grace, children’s book

The History of KODAK cameras

Interviews of everyone in the photo

I will address and include the visual conventions of the historical document to create credibility in my project

Provenance: I want to get an understanding of how each person in the photo really felt at that time, and ask questions about what traditions they could remember. The photo can replicate a lot of different girl’s who dressed in some of the similar clothing, wore similar hair styles, and jewelry. Going back to interview the women who spent a lot of time getting us dressed for special occasions.Looking back at family traditions to see how it will connect back to my fake part of my research.

Multiple perspectives: I can think of a number of people who have looked like the photo in which my cousin’s were photographed in. I want to use the perspectives of my childhood along with my sister to show a lot of the similarities taken in the photo of 2000.

Reproduction/ aged project: To age the project I will use ink to replicate the KODAK logo on the back of the photograph that I have recreated for the project, and I will use a package with the labels and envelope to look like the photos were sent to my address.

Explanatory text: I plan on using the text to emphasize the photos that I created as my fake, what was said in each interview will help make my statement of traditional clothing and style stronger.
