Royalty free music – Creative Commons

Are you looking for some music to add to a project that is safe for you to use? That respects copyright?

There are some resources out there, for example The Free Music Archive is an online repository for music that uses the Creative Commons Copyright, a standardized way for artists to grant copyright permissions to their creative work. Many of the artists include permission to use their work, or to create new versions or mixes. It all depends on the type of copyright they’ve chosen!

It’s worth noting that not ALL the music can be remixed into one of your projects. The various licenses outline what you can and cannot do with the audio. You can read about the forms of CC copyright HERE

A great way to get started is to just do a search that filters works that are OK for you to remix and start from there!

Start by doing a search on a genre

Then use the “License” filter to limit your search to works that you can remix or use on your project.

Once you get your results, you can narrow it further by searching on a word, changing the genre, etc.
