The Sound of Materials

A playlist created for the class Sound Matters at Parsons School of Design. The playlist includes works that deal with everyday materials, for example items in the bathroom (six drummers); paper (JX Jupitter-Larsen); wood (Steve Reich); even the sound a cactus (John Cage)

Texture & Sound

A playlist created for the class Sound Matters at Parsons School of Design. The playlist includes works that exemplify different kinds of sonic textures, from the rough and stubbly to the shimmering and smooth.

Other Modes of Listening

A playlist created for the class Sound Matters that responds to and complicates Michel Chion’s 3 Listening Modes. It emphasizies a range of subjective listening positions and approaches to sound including Afrofuturist, Queer and Indiginous listening and sounding.

Sound of Place

A playlist created for the class Sound Matters. A selection of tracks that connect to specific places and includes field recordings, architectural interventions, narrative explorations and other artistic angles on specific sites.  Some of the tracks are quite curious so be sure to Google them (for example Alvin Lucier’s piece Vespers,  Laica and Graham Dunning’s #2 from Blast Lock,  or Fall Into Me by Roomful of Teeth)

Sound and/of Media

A playlist created for the class Sound Matters that focuses on the STUFF of sound – the media itself. This includes damaged records, cd, computer algorithms, radio transmission and more.
