In my final project, i’ve chosen to explore the notion of time by considering the ways the ephemeral nature of time can lead to drastic effects on our natural world. As such, i couldn’t deter away from centring my focus around Global warming and it’s impact on the natural elements within the Arctic landscapes. By drawing on these highly disturbing realities, questions will be raised, what has changed? How are our impacts leading to our self-destruction? Exactly how long do we have?
I’m also very excited to explore mediums i have yet experimented with. I’m going to work with a combination of styrofoam and spray paint to create a melting/decaying affect, while incorporating perspex with ink in a representation of an hour glass to show the time line of a melting iceberg and its powerful obstruction to the world. these visuals will be achieved in an abstract impressionistic style.
The third component will incorporate a media file of a time lapse of new york city, contrasting two events, occuring at the same time.
The last element will incorporate an interactive component, where i will bring 4 different spray cans, filled with different mediums; water, alcohol, spray paint and coloured ink for the audience to determine the physical fate of the painting which will be highly symbolic as a depiction for our world. What will they choose?
