I remember the moment i opened this email so vividly i can still smell the nuts roasting on the corner of Shoreditch High Street. It was around 5pm on a Sunday night and i was working a night shift at my restaurant in London. I saw a notification that my decision letter was ready to be reviewed and my stomach dropped a hundred feet. It was when i saw the word ‘Congratulations’ i knew my world had changed forever… then i booked my flight home.

Titled | Mission: Accomplished?

My HSC Major work 2013 which received a 50/50. (Artist Statement) When ex- American President George Bush proclaimed in his 2003 speech “Our mission is accomplished”, widespread doubt across the nation lead people to disbelief, and ask themselves what exactly has been accomplished? What mission is being referred to? “Mission: Accomplished?” depicts a series of frames, which capture seven individual and significant ages during the course of American history, based in New York. This artwork will allow the audience to be transported back to the 17th century, and take part, frame by frame in a journey where the end is unknown. From the time of early immigration; draft riots and civil war, the settlements of the ‘little’ districts – Little Germany, Italy, China and Ireland which emerged in the lower east side, until present day where the ‘mission’ and ultimately, America’s destiny is yet to be discovered.
