The remake project, Part 2

For the second part of our Sophie Calle remake, we attempted to finish and format our final project. Our main focus was set upon the text, the layout and the binding of the final book.

As we moved forward with our remake, we decided upon combining our four acquaintances into a set of meetings, encountered by one fictional person. We choose the time span of one month to give the writing structure and form and created the layout according to the photographs so the book tells one continuous story with the visuals. We picked up the developed photographs and inserted them in addition to buying a back cover, preferably minimalistic, and getting the title stamped into it.

Our greatest development from last week is the combination of our 4 voices into one which suits Sophie Calle and enables the reader to perceive it as one single author. In addition to this we added more fiction to our story, to raise the question of reality, fiction and intentions of the author.

For the format of the book we decided on a minimalistic, yet clean, appearance to imitate Sophie Calle’s. We wanted to make the writing as compelling as possible so the viewer, who would be in dialog with personal relationship towards technology himself, would be drawn into the story just as much as the author was. The black cover mirrors timelessness, therefor also the timelessness of the issue of privacy and  where the line of intrusion lays for us personally.

I believe that the final display of our work was highly effective, clear connections can be drawn in form and content that arise personal questions afflicted with our work. I believe this is partially due to our main-characters meeting with a wide range of different people and characters so that it arises a feeling of compassion and empathy by the audience.
