Integrative Studio, Reflection on the overall progress of the semester

When I first entered Integrative Studio, I truly did not know what to expect. I found great difficulties in the short amount of time that was given to us for each project. I was overwhelmed with all the possibilities and the articulation of all my ideas within one single project and my technical skills.

As we moved forward in the semester, I realized that my technical and conceptual skills have grown and that I have started to stretch my interpretation of what art is and can be. I was particularly inspired by the artists we looked at, as I believe they are of great importance and have gave me enthusiasm to create authentic work of my own, even if I am yet to understand what that entails.

Also the connection of art and text is of great importance to me. I was never truly confident in my writing and the quality of my thoughts, having read many great books. Yet the projects in integrative have increased my confidence in my writing in connection to my artwork as well as by itself.

I really enjoyed having explored the various media, having only briefly explored photography and film. I suppose what very much shaped me within the semester is to take risks and step outside my comfort zone. This class makes me want to paint a fresco and bathe in Hitler’s bathtub at the same time and I truly believe that this was something I needed to grow as an artist and a person to gain confidence in my work of art.
