Project 3: Linear/ Non-Linear Progression Process

To create the sound piece, I had to break lots of glass. The sound of the smashing bottles was used to create a plot, along with the heartbeat, which sped up throughout the video.

The visual portion was meant to incorporate reality and the abstract. I should have filmed the balloons in a different setting than the ‘real’ footage to create an understanding of the difference. I chopped up the audio towards the end to add a feeling of excitement and change in the tempo.

When the sound and video components of this assignment were put together I imagined this short film would allude to the viewer a sense of romance and suspense while also creating a dreamlike landscape; the plot is meant to be stuck somewhere between fantasy and reality. The suspenseful and abrasive sounds collide interestingly with the images. I find the softness of the intimacy and the breaking of the glass to juxtapose each other when put together. Even though this made sense to me, I think it is confusing for viewers to understand this concept. Further shooting and editing would be necessary to strengthen this piece. I wish I had gotten more shots with examples of thirdness and firstness to add variety and visual interest to the video portion.
