Dress Practice Log Reflection

During the 2 weeks of recording my outfits for Dress Practice Log, I found myself paying more attention to the dress choice for each day. Some features I considered when I chose what to wear were; weather, people who I had a meeting with, and place. Among them, the thing I cared the most was people. Depending on people who I met each day, I decided concept of my outfit. When I had a meeting with my professor, I chose much more formal wear compare to the day I met my close friends. Also, when I went on a blind date to meet someone that I had not met before, I wore girlish clothing that could appeal my femininity to him. I think it was influenced by my culture background, since Korean men expect women to wear feminine clothing such as blouse and skirt.

The thing that I noticed during the Dress Practice Log was that, I cared a wearing sensation of each clothing a lot. Usually, I like to create a design that could gives comfort to people. Because of that, I also chose comfortable casual wear for myself during those 2 weeks. It was interesting to see how my design aesthetic and my dress choice affected each other.

Also the other thing I noticed was that, human body and clothing have a close relationship to each other. Since I didn’t have a confidence on my body, I chose clothing that could hide my complex rather than exposing my body silhouettes. I had a conversation with my friends about this and a lot of them had a same idea with me. They used clothing as a shade to hide their vulnerable points as well. In that sense, body can be a important factor that people consider when they make a dress choice every day.
