Time: Video Project

This is the color practice video I made and I chose color blue.

So Pudovkin’s 5 Basic Edits are contrast, parallelism, symbolism, simultaneity and leit motif. I used the concept of contrast and parallelism in the beginning, the scene from the sky to the sea, to highlight the general feeling of stuck in a tiny room and missing the beach and the color blue. Setting up a mood from the second scene, I moved on using symbolism and left motif afterwards. Blue is appearing in ever scene but from different angle and various of blue objects. Afterwards I have more parallelism comparing the deep down ocean bubbles with boiling water, and symbolism of using the same color.

This is the video I made for the video project before the final.

In this video, I am basically summarizing my freshman year for myself, by showing how busy and how much stuff the character have done and how hard it still get to write a resume. My experience for my freshman year is busy, interesting, tiring and fulfilling, from Lang to Parsons and from Culture and Media to Strategic Design and Management. No one is going to be receiving more than me. But somehow I feel like I need to be more realistic? I don’t know. Life is confusing right now.

Coming back to my video, I used different colored elevators to represent different seasons, blue for winter, yellow for spring and red for summer. No face is shown in my video, showing that it is not a extreme example but a general feeling for freshman. One thing I really like about my result is that how stable it is. I used tripod for literally every scene and it took me a long time to figure out how to use it actually. The scenes transit smoother than I imaged. One thing I think I need to get improve is the angle. Some of them are just don’t look good to me, so next time I need to video the same action in more angles just incase.

And thinking about Pudovkin’s 5 Basic Edits, I used contrast, parallelism and symbolism the most from my elevator scenes. So like I am contrasting colors of different elevators as well as paralleling and symbolizing them.
