A Visit to The People’s Park [Film/Video]

A Visit to The People’s Park – Audio with motion image
Back in older decades, there were parks build by government everywhere in China. Under the political impact, all these gardens have a same name: People’s Park. Park is a public garden. Park is the only place where people can see many plants in the city. And at that time, no one in the city have an available private land for garden, so park became the only place they can go when they want to spend their spare time having fun. People love to exercise there in the morning. Naughty kids will stayed there late after school. Fashion people will dance with the loud music playing by their speakerphone(Dancing halls were forbidden at that time). People have a good memory about parks. You can see many beautiful scenes happened in the fake story written on the textbooks.
But few would think about going to parks nowadays. People who want to see nature to relax, would drive or take bus to suburb area where has natural views, or they would climb the mountain. The rest of them won’t even have any intention to see nature. People’s Parks are going to be forgotten. And some of them have already been shut down.
Now only few old people would go there for a walk(I guess it might be their habit). And in most of the time, some place of the park will be rent out to some petty dealers. They seem no more parks.
This video work (actually it is more a video) contains the sound record of my visit to a local People’s Park. It presents my rare park memory and the condition of the present People’s Parks.

As world becoming "digitalized", I am exploring the complex correlation between the digital and the physical, the virtual and the real. Through research and project, I'm answering how virtual and digital experience is perceived, and how it can be better applied, along with things like physical computing, to people's life for better working and living experience. I’ve done various forms of project: wearable technology, digital interactive graphics, data visualization, short films and UX design for company collaboration system. I have never limit the possibility of learning and taking use of new forms or new materials. Like a vintage typewriter that uses intelligent coding to type out a poem to wake you up, a short research documentary to observe how people perceive the fake but virtual information embedded in a daily life environment, a raincoat that seal itself using magnets. Actually, most of my works challenged the application of new materials and new forms, while deliver interaction with human experience in a respectful and playful way.
