I got inspiration from the story of Medusa, who thought to be an evil gorgon that will kill male and turn anyone who stared at her eyes to stone. However, if we really looked into the story about Medusa, most of people will have sympathy for her.
“Medusa was originally a ravishingly beautiful maiden, “the jealous aspiration of many suitors,” but because Poseidon had raped her in Athena‘s temple, the enraged Athena transformed Medusa’s beautiful hair to serpents and made her face so terrible to behold that the mere sight of it would turn onlookers to stone.”
Philip Freeman. Oh My Gods: A Modern Retelling of Greek and Roman Myths
Throughout the history, Medusa existed in people’s life. Many architecture used the sculpture of Medusa’s head to pray for security with her magical power. Medusa was also once regarded as the icon of Feminism.
In some sense, Medusa really stands for the power of women. That’s what I want to express with this work. But a lot of details cannot be achieved with this simple prototype.
As you can see, there are 6 snakes around the upper part of the crown. And they can actually move themselves smartly responding to the environment sound.
At the really beginning I decided to use crown to be the base of the whole project(Anyway I do not want to make a wig). Crown has always been the symbol of power and ruling. That’s perfect who women who want to show their power. During my research, D&G released a series of crowns these years and they are a hit. Women still love it, they want to prove they have the power.
In my original design, I really want to add some feminine elements, like flowers, leaves, birds and other symbolistic shapes. That will be achieved in the later prototype. The rotation of the snake’s movement will also be the goal of the next prototype.
So if you’re a powerful female you should wear this.
However… if you’re a man like Kim, who stands for female rights, and love my design, I guess you can also wear this.
Thanks to @Kyle for shooting this video for me!!! Extremely appreciated!!!
