Hybrid Animal Book

The Myth:

While on vacation in Hawaii, a young couple spotted a strange, huge, red, fish-like bird with an 8-foot wingspan. One of them is terrified as the bird swoops down and lands just a few yards away from them, but the other one is intrigued. When the bird takes off again, the one who was intrigued insists on following it. So they do. They followed this majestic creature into the jungle unaware of their surroundings. Their focus was centered around this strange animal. The creature finally rested its giant body on a huge, flat rock a few feet away from the water and seemed to remain still. The man thought it was a great opportunity to take a photo of the bird so he pulled out his camera and quickly tried to take a few shots of the resting creature. Little did he know that this creature is extremely flash-sensitive. The flickering bright light instantly startled the creature and it flew off the and rock straight up into the sky and then dived down, into the water like a dolphin. The couple was in shock. They didn’t see the creature submerge from the water and assumed it might’ve drowned. Tired and disappointed in themselves and what had happened, the couple decided to set up their tent in that area and sleep. Around 4am, the woman heard loud chirping noises. She was curious to find out what kind of birds were making these sounds so she put on her jacket, unzipped the tent and stepped out of it. She was staggered at what she saw. She saw ten of those giant red fish-like birds flying around and a few laying beside the water. She quickly ran to her tent and woke her husband up. This is when the couple decided to start a research project on these creatures. After years of researching, scientists drew a few conclusions about this species. Extensive genetic research proved that this creature is a hybrid of the common stingray and the cardinal and therefore got its name, “nalray”. The nalray is part bird and part fish so it possesses characteristics of both. Like a bird it can fly and like a fish it can swim. It lays eggs in the water beside or under rocks to conceal them from predators. Their progeny is created asexually the larvae grow into tiny nalrays. This baby nalrays are nurtured and fed by their parents until they can prey and feed on their own. The nalray has the same diet as any stingray. It mostly eats worms, carrion and crustaceans. These creatures have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years but reproduce only once with one partner in their entire lifetime which adds to the evidence that these creatures are very limited in number.
